Oh Starbucks…how I miss you…

In case you didn’t know, I worked at Starbucks before AND after I worked in France, and while in music school. And I probably did a lot of complaining about it (especially when I had to open the place at 4:45 a.m. or when that guy stole a handful of cds), but for the most part, it was actually a fun workplace. And it was filled with really great people! Except for the venti 3x blended frappucino guy…ugh.

So even though I rarely go into a Starbucks nowadays (yes, it IS a ripoff for people who can afford a $5 coffee), I still love the ideas and practices that the company is built on. Some people think it’s all a show and we should hate corporate America together, but honestly, after working for the company and with some great coworkers, I can say it’s not a show, and I truly respect the philanthropy and goodwill behind Starbucks’ mission.

And that was reinforced this morning when I saw the Starbucks Love Project website.

I heart the idea behind this (it reminds me of Matt–and if you haven’t seen him before, check it out!), but what’s even better is Starbucks will donate 5 cents for each submission (song or drawing) to the Global Fund to fight AIDS in Africa. Amazing.

I left this drawing in their gallery:
