Something old…

Whew! After a whirlwind of family dinners, too many Christmas gifts, and one very rainy day in NYC, we’re home! And pooped! If I didn’t have to be at work today, I’d still be in bed. Even Kiley refused to get up. But what a great Christmas :)

Thanks to Jon and his wonderful Christmas gift, I’ve decided on the “something old / something new / something borrowed / something blue” parts of my wedding attire.  Here they are:

Something old

I’d been eying vintage pocket watches on etsy and ebay for a while now, but with all the hustle and bustle of the holiday season, I put off my search in December. So imagine how surprised and delighted I was when I opened up my Christmas gift from Jon and inside was this:

An 1886 Waltham ladies pocket watch. !!! [Is it sad that the best way to express myself when it comes to this pocket watch is a bunch of exclamation points?] It is beautiful. And is in perfect working order. And ticks, as long as you remember to wind it! I love love love it. Thank goodness my wedding dress has pockets!

Something new

I suppose the dress I just bought is something new, but I think wedding dresses are excluded from this old saying, so I’ll go with another new purchase I’ve made recently: shoes! And not just any shoes–super cute and surprisingly comfy Kate Spade shoes! They aren’t your typical bridal shoes, so traditionalists, brace yourselves at the wedding! I’m trying to keep these a secret, so I won’t post a photo online (for now, anyway!)

When I tried them on with my dress at the fitting, the seamstress LOVED them. She made me parade around the shop and show her coworkers. How funny!

Something borrowed

Earlier I was considering wearing three strands of Indian pearls my MOH offered, but when my mom offered to let me wear a necklace-and-earring set I’ve ogled since childhood, I knew I had to wear that! I still haven’t had a chance to try them on with the dress, but I think it’s going to look lovely together. Each stud earring and the pendant on the necklace is one big pearl, nested by two delicate ruby “leaves,” which delightfully match the color of my shoes! I have no idea who made them or how old they are, but they are sublime.

Something blue

Maybe this is cheating, but I’m planning on sewing a blue ribbon with our initials into the lining of my dress at the waistline. It will be my little secret from the rest of the guests. Blue symbolizes love and fidelity, so I think  I will keep it close to my heart on my wedding day.

But I also might wear blue undies. ;)
