Good news!

Today, while no one was looking, Kylie jumped up on her old spot on the back of the couch.

She hasn’t done this in over a month, since the lyme disease symptoms showed up. And while she still needed help to get up on the couch in the first place, this is an awesome milestone. :)

A Kylie update

This is a perfect rainy day for apple cider from Starbucks.

We’ve spent today lounging on the couch, watching Mad Men, with Kylie. Kylie has been doing a little better today, thanks to another trip to the vet and a new diagnosis yesterday. The poor pooch has lyme disease. :(

Thank goodness it’s treatable! Kylie started her month-long antibiotic treatment yesterday, and we’re already seeing some improvement. Whew! It’s just good to finally know what was causing the problems.

But here’s the thing. This is the second time we’d gone to see this vet in the past two weeks. Despite that Kylie has had all the symptoms of lyme disease, they didn’t want to check for it either time. Yesterday when I asked, the guy said, “Nah, she wouldn’t get that down here.” We finally got them to run a test for it because the vet needed to run some blood work anyway, and when he called with the results an hour later, he said, “Surprisingly, the lyme test came back positive. I would have never guessed that in a million years.”

So now Kylie is well on her way to feeling better and will be getting a new vet in the future.

oh dear…

Oh little blog, I have neglected you for over a week! And for that I am sorry. I’ve been dealing with some doggie health issues (Kylie has been diagnosed with arthritis and has a horrible time getting around these days) and we spent the weekend in the mountains of Virginia. And I’m prepping to go DC tomorrow for work, sheesh.

But even more than that, I just haven’t been inspired for this blog lately. I don’t know why. Wedding-related blog posts just seemed to write themselves, but without that inspiration, I don’t know what to write!

So I’m going to take some time to figure it all out (after going to DC and worrying about my dog). In the meantime, does anyone have any suggestions for healing a hurting puppy? They had her on rimadyl, but she ran out earlier this week, and I can tell the pain is back. I’ve been told to try aspirin, black strap molasses, and honey, and I’m not really sure what’s safe and what will work. Does anyone have a suggestion? Kylie would greatly appreciate it!

Here she is doing what she does A LOT these days: sleeping on the floor. She can’t jump up on the couch anymore, which was her usual spot.

And this is what she looks like when you wake her up.

One glimmer of joy in an otherwise glum week

It’s been a rough day. Jon came home early with a headache, I’ve got some flu-like bug, and poor Kylie dog spent all morning at the vet, only to come home with an arthritis diagnosis and several bottles of pills. There is nothing sadder than watching your poor little dog struggle to get up, then give up because of the pain, and lie back down. This is just not our week.

So now we’re all lounging sickly/painfully on the couch. But we’ve had a couple glimmers of hope: Kylie has eaten EVERYTHING we’ve put in front of her, which is a good sign, and Jon’s been laughing hysterically at that crazy Wipeout show. (Sidenote: Whatever happened to Most Extreme Challenge, the Asian version of this show that was dubbed over in English and was HILARIOUS?! That was way better than the American version.) But best of all, I got to sort through some photos I took of my nieces this weekend.

We took Tera, Anna, and Audrey to Grandma’s pool this weekend…and wow, did they LOVE it! Tera told us repeatedly that it was the best day of her life and that she wanted it to last forever. And although the vile germ-filled salt-water pool was probably the source of this plague I’ve got, I have to admit, it was a great time. Much like fireworks, swimming pools are a bajillion times more fun when children are involved.

It all started with a short walk to my mom’s community pool.

And once we were in, I had to get a family portrait. It was, after all, the best day of their lives! And they needed something to remember it by.

And then I made each of them model for me. Here’s Tera, the beautiful little mermaid. She’ll be eight years old next month.

And here’s Anna, the heartbreaker (or future Lady Gaga?). She’ll be six this summer.

And sweet little Audrey, who’ll turn four soon, all tuckered out after one awesome day at the pool.

Happy fourth of July!

Hands down, fireworks are always more fun when children are involved. And it’s nights like this that make me HATE that I forgot a camera. Phone shots are just never good enough.

Here’s Tera waving the American flag for the fireworks show.

And here’s Anna being grumpy (and cute) all by herself because we lost the second flag.

Happy belated fourth of July, folks! Hope you get a day off (unlike Jon and me, who got our day off on Friday, hmph).
